Here is why we build all black furniture

Why Black?

Black by definition is “the absence of or complete absorption of light”. Even though black may not even be considered a color, it still evokes a feeling. So many things in our world are synonymous with black. The little black dress made famous by Audrey Hepburn has become an icon in the fashion industry. The black leather jacket, worn best by James Dean, is the epitome of cool. The leader of the free world rolls around in a black limousine dubbed the beast, and the ultimate symbol of status happens to be a little plastic card known as “the black card”.

Black also serves as a symbol in many ways. We wear black to a funeral, and use a black stripe to represent a loss. A black tie event is the height of formal wear. A black suit, for a man or woman, demands attention in a boardroom. Black is also a staple in counterculture. Fans of Punk and Goth have a wardrobe exclusively devoid of color. Johnny Cash was dubbed “the Man in Black”, Cash said he wore all black on behalf of the poor and hungry, the "prisoner who has long paid for his crime", and those who have been betrayed by age or drugs. Speaking of crime, we often see SWAT, and special forces units draped in black when operating in the dark. It is amazing how black can be a color, a symbol, and a feeling all at once.

How does black work in your home?

We see our furniture as bold statement. You cannot ignore it. It will not fade into the background. It becomes a conversation piece, giving you the opportunity to talk about all the things that make it amazing. It also serves as a platform. Many designers will tell you that large furniture pieces should be a neutral color. Smart advice when you take into consideration how difficult it could be to replace a couch or table when your tastes change. Your core pieces of furniture should be able to work with and adapt to your decor. We believe black is the perfect backdrop for everything you pair it with.
